Firm Announces New Leadership

The firm is pleased to announce that in an effort to support the firm’s continued growth and broaden the scope of its client services the following leadership positions have been established.

Marty Roos: Chief Operating Officer

Marty Roos has been selected as the firm’s first Chief Operating Officer (COO). Marty, a shareholder and Leader of the Estate Planning and Probate Practice Group, has been with the firm since his graduation from law school in 1990. Consistently recognized as one of the best estate planning attorneys in the state, Marty’s commitment to the success of the firm has led to his appointment as COO by the firm’s management.  As COO, Marty is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the firm, and for operations management. Charged with monitoring the daily operations of the firm and reporting to the firm’s Chief Executive Officer, Bruce Mitchell, and the firm’s Executive Committee, Marty shapes the way the firm services its clients. Providing legal service to our clients requires more than just sound advice -- it requires sound business judgment. Just as many of the firm’s clients are committed to the success of their own businesses, so are the firm’s shareholders are dedicated to operating effectively as a business. Marty’s depth of knowledge regarding the legal industry, and his experience as Practice Group Leader, provides the firm with the right resources to develop, design, and improve the delivery of legal services as professionally and efficiently as possible.
 
Kathleen Quiroz: Leader – Health Care Practice Group
Shareholder Kathleen Quiroz has been named Leader for the firm’s Health Care Practice Group.   Kathleen has been a member of the Corporate & Securities and Health Care Practice Groups since 1995. 
 
Kathleen’s practice focuses on the regulatory aspects of health care law, including Medicare coverage and billing; HIPAA; Stark Law, illegal remuneration, and civil monetary penalties law; and state regulation of HMOs, PPOs, and approved non-profit health corporations. She also counsels hospitals and physicians in connection with peer review matters. Kathleen’s practice also focuses on the business aspects of health care law, including the formation, purchase, and sale of professional practices and the preparation and negotiation of a variety of contracts including employment contracts, recruitment agreements, and clinical trial agreements.
 
Kathleen is a San Antonio native who received her B.A. from Yale University in 1985 and her J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law in 1988. In addition to her practice, she is a frequent author and lecturer on issues related to health care law. She is also a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of ACCION Texas, a San Antonio-based micro-lender which is currently the largest micro-lender in the United States. Kathleen has been recognized as a leader in her field by numerous trade and business publications, including Woodward and White (Best Lawyers in America) and Scene in SA Magazine (Best Lawyers in San Antonio). Additionally, Woodward and White named Oppenheimer, Blend’s Health Care Practice Group the leading health care group in San Antonio for 2009.        
 
James Maverick McNeel: Leader – Trust & Estate Litigation Practice Group
James Maverick McNeel has been selected as Leader for the firm’s newly-formed Trust & Estate Litigation Practice Group. Jim is a recognized leader in the area of fiduciary litigation, focusing on controversies relating to trusts and estates, guardianship, and related probate and tax matters. He combines almost 14 years of experience in probate and litigation with his tax background (LLM in Estate Planning) into this specialty creating expertise and efficiency for the client. For decades, the firm has been a regional leader in the field of taxation, probate, and trusts. Jim’s new practice group leverages his exceptional commitment to full-time trust and estate litigation with the firm’s deep expertise, presenting an unmatched resource to clients involved in trust and estates controversies. Trust and estate disputes can disrupt families and financial institutions, and Jim is dedicated to establishing a working relationship assuring that the benefits and risks involved in a controversy are met with the best possible solution, be it settlement, arbitration, or trial. Individual and institutional trustees, beneficiaries, and executors now have a dedicated team which they can rely upon in situations where experience and expertise in trust and estate litigation is critical for success.
