Congratulations to Marty Roos who received the Superintendent's Award from Northeast Independent School District's Superintendent, Richard Middleton. Roos received the award for his work with the pilot program for NEISD known as Watch D.O.G.S., that was launched this year at Hidden Forest Elementary.
Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is an innovative program of the National Center for Fathering focusing on prevention of violence in our nation's schools by using the positive influence of fathers and father-figures as role models for students at Hidden Forest. The pilot program has sparked interest from over 80 fathers at the school who each dedicate a day at the school volunteering in a variety of ways. Fathers participating in the program get a glimpse of their students' everyday world and learn more about the increasingly complex challenges and decisions today's youths are facing. Watch D.O.G.S. was founded by Jim Moore, a concerned father who chose to take action in response to a 1998 middle-school shooting in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Congratulations to Marty for his recognition with this very worthwhile program. Marty is one of many of our attorneys who are active in community programs, striving to make a difference in our community.
